WASHINGTON - President Bush said Thursday his administration is making steady progress in steering more federal taxpayer dollars to religious charities.

Translation: He dipped into our collective coat pockets and threw in a few while the offering plate was passed!
Don't get me wrong, I am all for giving what one can, and where one wants to. It's the next part that is obscene.

Bush stated:
"It used to be that groups were prohibited from receiving any federal funding whatsoever because they had a cross or a star or a crescent on the wall," Bush said. "And that's changed, for the better.

"It's changed for the better for those who hurt in our society," he said. "So now when the government's making social service grants, money is awarded to groups that get the best results regardless of whether they're a faith based program. That's all people want. They want to access to grant money on an equal basis, on a competitive basis, so there's no discrimination one way or the other."

What a load of Crap! When we lost all to Charlie, we were assisted generously by a wide array of groups. The Red Cross, The United Way, FEMA (believe it or not), local businesses, and oh yes, we did get a phone call months later from a church. What a phone call, seems they had a gift card to Walmart they wanted to give us, all we had to do was come down to the church. Reasonable enough I suppose, but we had lost our car to the storm as well. I won't bore you with the details, but in summary, we could not travel the 22 miles to this church, and they wouldn't release the "help" without us attending a service ( no ride offered). What a crock, offering "help" donated by a corporate philanthropist, and predicating it on wether or not we attended? And you want my tax dollars held ransom in the same benevolent way? What is that bubble filled with anyway?

Hey Bubble Boy! They were prohibited because every symbol on the wall shared space with a big green dollar sign! Do you not remember PTL? Fallwell, who fell well? Mr. Graham ain't hurtin'. You really think the "Moral Majority" ( which is neither) needs government funding? Crawl out of that bubble long enough to see that money given directly to those in need is going to arrive extremely more intact than that which is divined by the"divine" or otherwise?
