I felt as if I was listening to prewar rationalizations from Nazi Germany. Is this a new NSS, or a new SS? Scot McLellan flailed miserably at his attempt to deflect the direct question "Does the President know that he is in violation of International Law when he advocates preemptive war, UN Charter, Geneva, Nuremberg?" The dance that took place after that was shameful, at one time McLellan even pulled the old 'meaning of is,is trick' when trying to describe the word preemption as a "long standing principle of American foreign policy". This all was in reaction to Bush's latest and 3rd revision of the National Security Strategy, which reads more like how to shape the world in your own image. Disgusting and as distasteful as my SS reference is, it rings a little to close to the tones in this disgraceful document. These are excerpts from "Fact Sheet: The President’s National Security Strategy ", posted today.
The first offense is the unilateral approach to teach the world how to act, our way:
"The survival of liberty in our land increasingly depends on the success of liberty in other lands. The best hope for peace in our world is the expansion of freedom in all the world."
As arrogant as that statement be, it just gets better with this next one:
"Free governments do not oppress their people or attack other free nations."
Wait, aren't we a 'Free government' society? I would like to hear the Gays, Blacks, Hispanics, Women (to name a few) wiegh in on this "do not oppress their people" premise. And oh yes, wasn't Iraq a free and soverign nation?
"The struggle against militant Islamic radicalism is the great ideological conflict of the early years of the 21st century"
Ok, so great, now we are not at war with a country, it's a freaking crusade? That's downsizing the escalation, idiot.
"Abroad, we will promote meaningful reform of the United Nations to improve its accountability, efficiency, and effectiveness. We will enhance the role of democracies and democracy promotion through international and multilateral institutions."
Didn't Hitler have grand illusions of changing the world to more perfectly fit into his perfect little vision, this is an unforgivable omnipotence.
"The United States will lead the effort to reform existing institutions and create new ones – including forging new partnerships between governmental and nongovernmental actors, and with transnational and international organizations."
A New World Order
"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America..."
I really don't think a New World Order was on their minds
