"The three-judge panel said that the EPA's reading of the Clean Air Act was "a Humpty Dumpty world" interpretation and that Congress had made clear it wanted older facilities to add pollution controls whenever they make modifications."
How many different ways can you screw America and still sleep at night? Thank God the Court had our back today. I seem to never get used to the administration's complete unashamed approach at profiteering for their cronies in big business. I mean the EPA's response to this was nothing short of silly.
"We are disappointed that the court did not find in favor of the United States," said EPA spokesman John Millett"
You obviously meant to say "in favor of BushWorldCorp US, Inc.", Mr. Millet. What possible nonsense was that statement? I mean, these guys are educated, well learned individuals to become spokesmen, right? Oh, right, what was I thinking.
"This is an enormous victory for clean air and for the enforcement of the law and an overwhelming rejection of the Bush administration's efforts to gut the law," said New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, who led the lawsuit for the states. "It is a rejection of a flawed policy."
Wouldn't it be great if we could get more "rejection of a flawed policy" on a regular basis? Wow, I think even Humpty could be reassembled in that world.
Friday's decision "is a step backward in the protection of air quality in the United States," said Scott Segal, director of the Electric Reliability Coordinating Council, a Washington-based group representing several power-generating companies. "What is it the environmental community thinks they've won? They've won the ability to place roadblocks in front of energy efficiency projects. This is terrible news."
'a Washington-based group representing several power-generating companies', Are you kidding? Several? According to Peter Lehner, Spitzer's top environmental lawyer, the decision applies to about 800 power plants and up to 17,000 factories nationwide, a few?!? This guy has been around these festering smoke billowing plants so long, he is now actually blowing smoke out of his arse! For real!
It is truly, truly refreshing to see the good guys win one, in the courts, the American way. Kudos to the Court of Appeals in Washington for this one. And you are so right Mr. Segal, this is terrible news indeed. I can see the stock ticker on "BushWorldCorp US, Inc." in a rapid and steady decline. Sell, Sell, Sell!!!
